Information for Australian citizens applying for an APEC Business Card

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Travel Card scheme is an important initiative that commenced permanent operations in March 1999. This scheme is for business people to gain streamlined entry to other economies. It contributes to APEC's goal of free and open trade within the Asia-Pacific region.

Changes to the Business Certification for the APEC Business Travel Card Application Process

On 19 March 2014, the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, announced changes to the APEC Business Travel Card by no longer requiring business certification by an approved body for Australian citizen applicants.

Businesses must continue to demonstrate that they are engaged in trade and investment between APEC economies, however this will be done through the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and no longer by external approved bodies.

The new arrangements for the APEC Business Travel Card commenced on 1 June 2014.

How Can AustCham Help?

We can assist our Corporate members in the provision of a letter of support which the Department of Immigration and Border Protection has confirmed as supporting documentation when demonstrating business trade and or investment activities in the region. This can assist start-up operations to validate their business operations, in addition to strengthening the application for existing companies. Please contact the AustCham office on members@austcham.org.sg should you require this service.
